My first year at a college

My first year at a college

I grew up as an only child spoilt by his parents. What did it mean for me?  Well, I was feeling alone sometimes, I was being bored during some afternoons with nobody in a house... but I had all my parents’ love, I was unique – nobody wore the same clothes as I did, get the same presents from grandparents as I did and I had my own room with my own computer, own TV... and I had my privacy! I turned my TV off and told my parents to turn theirs off when I was ready to go to a bed. Nothing disturbed me from a sweet sleep then. Because I’m the only child of my parents, thus they love me to death, there wasn’t anything that would have prevented me from my well being in my house... Yes, my house, my room, my freedom...

I was about to start my new life at a college six hours drive from my home. I was pretty excited about learning new things that I would certainly enjoy but it didn’t mean just a college it meant a dormitory too - many people living in one place, two people sharing rooms, me and an other girl sharing one room... That’s what I was so scared of; my spoilt need for privacy was about to be changed. I would have been a fool if I had forgot to pack my earplugs that are my best friends during traveling. Wherever I go they always go with me and help me to establish the silence of my room at night thus I can afford the deep sleep I get at home. I even gave names to my earplugs: one was “zzzz” and the other one was “hmm”. I never knew which one was which though.

Finally I opened the door of my dormitory room. As I was expecting my room made was already there, all unpack. I was also expecting nice “hello” like: “Hi, how are you doing, my name is (something) and I’m from (something)...” Instead, surprisingly, she started straight: “This is my bed and the right side of closet’s mine, I took the desk under the window, yours next to the door...” Well, it seemed I wasn’t going to suffer from the loss of my entire privacy. Good deal. “BTW, I’m used to going to sleep around 9:04, I hope you understand that.” She added and made me even happier.

As soon as 9:04 in the night the light by her bed went off. In couple minutes I went to a bed as well. I put on my earplugs and enjoyed listening only to my breath... for a while. Then something strongly disturbing awoke me... “Zzzz... zzzz...”

S-S-SNORING! My new room made was snoring in such a loud way that it even passed through my earplugs into my ears. Moreover she snored irregularly and it contained some kind of barking too that it was impossible to focus on anything else but her snoring. What the hell did I do to anybody!?  I decided to be nice and not to wake her up. I tried the famous “cs cs cs cs cs cs” at first... it didn’t work. I opened my drawer to make a different noise... didn’t work either. Then I got up, went to the door and opened it and closed it with loud enough “bam”... guess what... she was steady as a rock. Desperate I lay down again and wished I could snore too.

One hour passed and no - I still haven’t entered the world of dreams. I was tired, I had headache... “Please... I’ll give you a dollar!!!!” I randomly yelled and I must have woken her up because the snoring stopped. I was wondering if she was going to hate me for this. Apparently she never did.

She wasn’t talking much. Actually she wasn’t talking at all. Oddly we haven’t got any closer to each other after several months living together. I wouldn’t have told she was in the room during a day but at night it felt like there was a bear instead of her. My old spell was always working though. I just say “please” and I promised one dollar little bit louder and I got what I wanted – quiet night.

In the end of the school year I decided to spend my summer vacation in the college town. There was too much reconstruction on our house that I wouldn’t have been able to handle during this long break likely created to rest. So I was watching my

room made folding her clothes into her big brown sack. I was thinking if she was going to tell me “bye” at least after ten months of sharing one room with me. I was rather skeptic about that. However she approached to me with a smile on her face. She moved her hand against me like she wanted me to shake it and then she said

“294 bucks, please”

I give you four points, because you wouldn`t care to have it corrected. After that it would be perfect!
